BREAKING: OpenAI just dropped GPT-5.4 mini and nano
openai just dropped gpt-5.4 mini and nano today. mini is their new small model built for coding and multimodal tasks, scoring 54.4% on swe-bench pro, close to the full gpt-5.4 at 57.7%. it runs faster than previous small models and is now available to free and go users through the "thinking" option in chatgpt. nano is api-only, designed for high-volume, low-latency tasks like data classification and extraction. priced at $0.20 per million input tokens. openai sees it being used by developers running ai agents that delegate tasks to it at scale. openai describes both as "our most capable small models yet" with improvements in reasoning, multimodal understanding, and tool use over previous versions.
